M*A*S*H speech!

So we got this assignment in school to choose a topic - any topic that somehow relates to the English language or the English speaking world - and make a presentation about it, like an essay or a speech. 

I WILL BE DOING A SPEECH ABOUT M*A*S*H

HAVE YOU ANY IDEA HOW MANY YEARS I HAVE WISHED TO GET TO DO THIS?!

I’m thinking of having someone film it for me so I can put it up on YouTube. What would you guys think about that? :)

I very intelligently just came up with something to keep this blog from being so dead right now - a Q&A video! Or challenge me and make me cry because I don’t know the answer.

Just send me any question(s) relating to M*A*S*H (or something else if you like, but I reckon since this is a M*A*S*H blog…) and I will post it on my YouTube channel and link the video here.

Meta or something: Radar O’Reilly

When I was a kid, one of my favorite fictional worlds was the world of Winnie the Pooh. My favorite character in that world, except for Pooh himself, was Piglet. Radar is the Piglet of M*A*S*H, in every way imaginable.

I love Radar. There’s not much more to say about that. I love how he’s completely meek and humble – and most of the time even accepts that – and yet, so utterly brilliant. I’ve known some people like that, people that your glance might scoot right over to the point that they’re almost invisible, but the time comes when you get to see that there’s something these people excel at, and it’s surprising and a bit awe-inspiring but you don’t really mention it.

He’s not exactly bullied or left out, but Radar feels different. No one else is quite like him, and sometimes he wonders if there might be something wrong with him. He’s uncool, and he doesn’t want to be, so sometimes he’ll try to be something he isn’t, looking outside of himself for fulfillment. As a viewer, I think many of us just want to hug Radar and tell him that he’s wonderful and amazing and perfect just the way he is, because we know. Everybody knows - everyone but Radar himself. We might be able to learn something from that. There are a lot of people that at times feel useless, maybe even worthless, and then they can see Radar, like I did, and come to the realization that maybe this different is a good different.

As for ships, I think that every person that has ever been in a somewhat romantic… thing… with Radar is a person that I ship with him. I ship him with Lieutenant Nugent and the other little crushes he’s had, as well as with Nurse Kellye. Other than that, Radar is only ~eighteen years old and I think he’s got a lot of time to find whatever partner he might feel comfortable with without me smashing his and other people’s faces together.

I can’t think of any opinion I have about Radar that would in any way be unpopular, or negative at all. Neither can I think of anything that I think would have improved his character arc and storyline – I think everything is perfect, everything from how he was to how he developed to what he did to how he left. Maybe he shouldn’t have kept his animals in such small cages, because I cringe inside whenever I see them, but that might be too much to ask from a 1950’s boy trying to keep pets in a warzone because he’s found them and probably saved their lives, not to mention how it’s probably against regulations and somebody would complain if they took up too much space. Not to mention how he seems to take them out to let them walk around and stuff. LET’S JUST SAY I FORGIVE YOU RADAR BECAUSE YOU DID YOUR BEST.

Radar is a pot of gold and one of those characters that I would probably defend into infinity if given the chance. He is perfect and I love him.
